backup maintanence plan failed

Hello,

I created a backup maintanence plan which run good before. I am not sure why it didn't work now.

The error message from job history is:

05/18/2007 09:04:40,backupdbs.backupdbs,Error,0,PEPE\SQL2005PROD,backupdbs.backupdbs,(Job outcome),,The job failed. The Job was invoked by User RMWB3\cs002291. The last step to run was step 1 (backupdbs).,00:00:00,0,0, 0
05/18/2007 09:04:40,backupdbs.backupdbs,Error,1,PEPE\SQL2005PROD,backupdbs.backupdbs,backupdbs,,Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: line(1): Syntax error). The step failed.,00:00:00,0,0,,,,0

How to debug this problem?

Thanks

Hi,

The actual error should have been logged in the SQL Error Log, please investigate the error log around the time the error occurred.

I have checked sql agent error log and didn't find any error around that time. Do you mean sql agent error log?

Thanks

i hope this box is a SQL Server 2005 build. In that case , the first thing we check is , whether SP2 applied or not. In sp2 many problems are fixed. If it is not applied, download from Microsoft site and install.

|||HI,

Please check the errorlog for that particular time(05/18/2007 09:04:40), you will get the backup error over there. Kindly post the error over here.|||

SQLdba2007,

Please check the SQL Server error rather than SQL agent log.

Jag

There is no error in sql server current log, just no backup info there. There are some errors in sql agent error log .

the error message is:

"unable to read local event log:[reasonStick out tonguearameter is incorrect ] at 12:00am ". my backup maintanence plan start at 11:00pm every day.

I also checked the event log viewer on the box. there are no related errors there and the size is 1.51k.

The DB is sql server 2005 without sp2 applied.

Thanks for all your help!

there is no point in trouble shooting this without applying SP2. Service Pack 2 is the minimum requirement to function maintenance plan in SQL Server 2005 and there are many bug fixing done in sp2. So download it and install, it will solve the problem

Madhu

|||

Were you able to resolve this problem? As I have the exact same issue there are no messages in either log file and the error msg displayed is generic. We have installed SP2 and the problem still exists.

The problem is gone after SP2 applied.

Thanks

Backup job Fails every time:

Dear Friends!
I have a scheduled job on my production server which always fails. When I
see the job history step details I can see 100 % backedup and along with
that I receive error
[SQLSTATE 01000] (Message 3211) Processed 1 pages for database 'SLNKMIL',
file 'SLNKMIL_Log' on file 1. [SQLSTATE 01000] (Message 4035) BACKUP
DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013). The
step failed.
Pl, guide me. Job fail isn't affordable on my production database.
I sincerly thank you!

Can you try issuing a BACKUP DATABASE statement via T-SQL through Query
Analyzer? It would be helpful to see the errors (if there are any). Before
running the backup make sure that you have results set to text.
The syntax is easy enough:
BACKUP DATABASE SLNKMIL TO DISK = 'x:\SLNKMIL.bak' WITH INIT

backup history: 3d party vendor

Hello,
It seems that the system table [backupset] does *not* contain backups ma
de by our 3d party backup
tool (Veritas), but only backups made by the SQL Server tools (Q.A., Agent c
ontrolled Tasks...).
Is this true?
How can I query the backup history of the 3d party tool?
(SQL S. 2000)
Thank You
JoachimJoachim
Please refer to
backupfile, backupmediafamily, backupmediaset, backupset, restorefile,
restorefilegroup, and restorehistory.

Thanks, I think I found the jobs. What really confuses me: The columns with
"software" in their name
always contain 'Microsoft SQL Server', in spite of the backup was made by th
e 'Veritas' Tool.
i.e:
select distinct software_name
from backupmediaset

Backup History Purge

I work in a small shop and I noticed this weekend that when SQL performs a
backup it must keep this information somewhere as I found that I have over 3
years of backup history when I restore a database. Can someone explain to
me how to purge this history information?
Thanks,
MattCheck out sp_delete_backuphistory in BooksOnLine. Just be fore warned that
this sp can take a LONG time when there are lots of reow in the table.

EXEC sp_delete_backuphistory '2002-09-01'
-- deletes all backup history for the db specified
EXEC sp_delete_database_backuphistory 'db_one'
very useful commands. if you do restores from enterprise manager, getting r
id
of the old backuphistory can speed up the time it takes for the initial rest
ore
screen to load.

Backup History Gone

Is there a way to recover the backup history for a database and
transaction log? I inadvertently deleted the backup history while trying
to restore and recover in a Full Recovery model. I need to do a
"point-in-time" restore of the log.
I still have copies of the mdf and ldf as they were before the process
began. I also have nightly backup and transaction log backup.
I have msdb and master backups and their log backups from nightly
backup.
When I deleted the history, the date modified on the msdb.mdf changed.
Neither did the date modified on the msdb.ldf.
Could I possibly return the backup history by restoring msdb and/or
master?
Please help!!!!

Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!If you have the full DB and the tran logs, and they are
appropriately labelled, you shouldn't have to need the
backup history. Just apply them in the right order and
you should be fine - remember to use STANDBY or NORECOVERY
until the last log file.
